Maverick has a very charasmatic personality and is very quick to the mark when learning anything new, he is now enjoying some work under saddle and seems to be a very comfortable ride with trusting and unflappalble way of going. We have recently been out to the cross country course too, well, anyone would have thought he'd been there before! - he loved it!. With just a few pointers and a bit of work to give him confidence, he was soon equipt with a kind and confident jockey ready for a great morning to remember.
During october 2008 maverick was worked in harness and put to a small exercise cart for the first time. With the help of a friend who is very experienced with carriage driving, and young horses, we worked steadily over a few days. Each morning we built on Maverick's basic knowledge, then adding on something new for him to learn each afternoon. It was almost as if he let me know when he was ready for the next step during his initial stages, but once he was actually driving, just in walk so far, he seemed happy to settle with laps of the school, and then a few figures of eight. For a pony that finds it so hard to stand still, he manages to stand like a statue during his harness training! - good boy!. I hope that this year I can add on to everything we did last year, so will build slowly on his confidence out of the school.
